Foodies

Some loved ones back home mentioned that many of our posts concern food. Well...yes. We are food lovers and Ireland has not disappointed. Found out very quickly that a "full Irish" breakfast is the equivalent of a Denny's Grand Slam + lumberjack breakfast. In other words it will sustain you, or send you into a food coma. Rashers (ham), sausage, fried egg, grilled tomato, toast, soda bread, potato cake, and black and white puddings (not sweet) make a full Irish. This hearty meal is a reflection of the farming lifestyle, which called for lots of fuel to get one through the rigors of the day.

Happily the Irish call the noontime meal "dinner," which has always been a tradition in my day's family. For him, the evening meal is supper, and lunch doesn't exist.

Last night I had a salad for dinner with unknown salty green bits of vegetation, which were quite tasty and looked sort of like a juniper needle. Turned out to be a kind of seaweed! Mom enjoyed a chunky seafood chowder filled with fat pieces of fish. During our dinner at Fitzpatrick's in Doolin we enjoyed live music by an Irish band. Sadly, no food pictures, as our camera and iPad were taking a well earned rest and charging.
